“we require from buildings two kinds of goodness: first, the doing their practical duty well: then that they be graceful and pleasing in doing it”

- john ruskin

charly moeller’s idea of school as living space

one main objective is understanding schools as ’living space’. today’s thoughts lead us to developing wider and more open spaces. in order to do this we need to open up the constructional level of school buildings and use solid ground plans as much as well known materials.

in my opinion school is based on an interactional process between teachers pupils and parents. it is a part of the individual’s life. the protecting shell around this part of life is provided by the school building.

this vision of school buildings are often beyond people’s recognition. i believe the relationship between teacher and pupil can be transferred to a relationship between building and human.buildings provide us with physical and psychological/social protection and feelings of security. structures, places and buildings can be surrounded by some sort of aura which evolves from expectations and requirements matching the constructional space. it took me a lot of research to find out about this characteristic trait in my work and implementing it in conceptualisations of space, architecture, buildings in a natural way.
